the Video editing app (Filmmaker) on Windows 10 is one of the easiest and most convenient video editors. Today we are going to discuss some of the corrective actions you can take if there is no sound in a Video editor project you are working on.

  1. Restart the Windows Audio service
  2. Turn off DTS sound
  3. Convert video file format
  4. Change sound settings
  5. Run Movie Maker in Compatibility Mode

1]Restart the Windows Audio service

Chances are this problem with your computer audio like most of them is related to Windows Audio service and if it really is then restarting it will do the trick for you. This is how it’s done:

  • Press the Windows key along with the “R” button to open the Run command.
  • Type “services.msc” in the box provided and press Enter.
  • This will open a separate Services window. Here locate Windows Audio, right click on it and click “stop”.
  • Right click on the same setting again and select ‘start’.

There is an alternative approach to this, which is described below:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Click on Services and search for AudioSrv.
  • Right click on it and select Restart.

Try playing the video on Movie Maker to see if it found sound.

2]Turn off DTS sound

DTS is the abbreviation for Digital Theater System. As the name suggests, it is a Windows utility that provides users with multi-channel and stereo audio output. While this feature is useful on occasion, it can also be the cause of the issue in question. So, users can also try to turn off DTS sound function by following below steps:

  • Search for DTS Sound in the taskbar search pane.
  • Turn off DTS sound by clicking the power button (left). A grayed-out window means that DTS sound has been successfully turned off.
  • You can then check if the problem persists with your audio in Movie Maker.

3]Convert video file format

The lack of sound from a Video Editor file may also be due to an incompatible file format.

In this case, it is better to convert the video file to a format that works well with Movie Maker, for example .mov, .avi or .wmv. There are several apps and tools online that can help you do this.

4]Change sound settings

Disabling exclusive mode in your computer’s audio settings can also help to end this problem in Video Editor. To do this, you need to follow the steps below:

  • Right click on the Sound icon that appears in your system tray and then select Sounds.
  • This will open the Sound dialog which can also be opened through Control Panel.
  • In the Playback section, select your audio device which, if you don’t have an external audio device plugged into your computer, are the speakers.
  • In the Advanced tab of your speaker settings, you will find the exclusive mode. Deselect all changes under this name and apply those changes.

Check whether the error was rejected or not.

5]Run Movie Maker in compatibility mode

If it turns out that the software has been disrupted, users can try to run it in Compatibility Mode. A compatibility mode is where software emulates an older version of itself to ensure that the incompatible application can still run on the computer. To do this, you need to follow the steps below:

  • Right click on the video editor shortcut and then select Properties.
  • In the options at the top of the Properties dialog box, click Compatibility.
  • Enable “Run this program in compatible mode for”, then select a desired version of Windows before clicking Apply and selecting “OK” to implement the changes.

We hope that one of the above solutions was able to come to your rescue and help you get your soundtrack back in Video Editor app. In the unfortunate case that none of the procedures are successful, we suggest you use another video editing platform as several of them are available for free, both as software and online tools.
